N-400 Checklist: What to Have Ready Before Starting
Before completing the N-400 intake, it helps to have the following information and documents ready. Some items may not apply to your situation. This checklist is only to help you prepare your information. Basic Information:
Your Green Card and your A-Number.
The eligibility basis you are using to apply, such as 5-year permanent residence, 3 years through marriage to a U.S. citizen, military service, or another listed category.
Your full legal name and any other names you have used.
Your current address, phone number, and email address.
Address, Work, School, and Travel History
Your full address history for the required period, usually the last 5 years.
Your full work, school, and unemployment history for the required period, usually the last 5 years.
Every trip outside the United States during the required period, including departure date, return date, and countries visited.
Family and Marriage Information:
Information about your current spouse, former spouses, and all children, including dates of birth, addresses, and immigration-related history where applicable.
Your marriage certificate and proof your spouse is a U.S. citizen if you are applying based on marriage to a U.S. citizen.
Any divorce decrees, annulment orders, or death certificates ending any prior marriages for you or your spouse, if applicable.
Other Records, If They Apply:
Your Selective Service number and registration date, if required. If you were required to register but did not, have a written explanation and a status information letter from Selective Service.
Any tax documents, payment-plan records, child-support records, alimony records, court records, police records, probation records, or certified dispositions if any of those issues apply to you.
If you had a trip outside the United States of more than 6 months, have evidence showing you kept your U.S. residence, such as tax transcripts, rent or mortgage records, pay stubs, or bank statements.
Any legal name-change document, if applicable.
Full English translations with translator certification for any non-English document.
