Welcome to the N-400 page. Before you start, make sure you have the following ready:

  1. Your Green Card and your A-Number.

  2. The eligibility basis you are using to apply, such as 5-year permanent residence, 3 years through marriage to a U.S. citizen, military service, or another listed category.

  3. Your full address history for the required period, usually the last 5 years.

  4. Your full work, school, and unemployment history for the required period, usually the last 5 years.

  5. Every trip outside the United States during the required period, including departure date, return date, and countries visited.

  6. Information about your current spouse, former spouses, and all children, including dates of birth, addresses, and immigration-related history where applicable.

  7. Your marriage certificate and proof your spouse is a U.S. citizen if you are applying based on marriage to a U.S. citizen.

  8. Any divorce decrees, annulment orders, or death certificates ending any prior marriages for you or your spouse, if applicable.

  9. Your Selective Service number and registration date, if required. If you were required to register but did not, have a written explanation and a status information letter from Selective Service.

  10. Any tax documents, payment-plan records, child-support records, alimony records, court records, police records, probation records, or certified dispositions if any of those issues apply to you.

  11. If you had a trip of more than 6 months, have evidence showing you kept your U.S. residence, such as tax transcripts, rent or mortgage records, pay stubs, or bank statements.

  12. Any legal name-change document, if applicable.

  13. Full English translations with translator certification for any non-English document.
